We will be in Illinois this Saturday! We are part of The American Beauty Project this Saturday at the Dominican University in River Forest, IL. The concert is an evening of music paying tribute to the songs of The Grateful Dead. The focus is mostly songs from American Beauty and Working Man's Dead. The cast of musicians includes Jim Lauderdale, Catherine Russell, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams and of course Ollabelle (unfortunately Amy Helm won't be joining us). Please come out and join us. Last year we put the concert at the University of Massacheusetts. It was great fun and it sounded amazing. Then next Saturday we will be at Merlefest in Wilkesboro, NC. We will be playing two shows on Saturday. One show is at 5:15pm all electric and the other at 9pm all acoustic right before Levon Helm takes the stage. We're pretty happy about playing Merlefest. It's a great festival. All the best to all, ~Ollabelle~

Keep 'Em Coming CANADA
Mon, Jul. 30 2007
We just got back from another great Canadian Festival, this time in Calgary. Our first show was Saturday evening on the main stage and it kicked off what turned out to be an amazing night of music with the incredible Bettye Lavette, the joyful Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians (a great band), and the New Orleans Social Club featuring George Porter, Leo Nocentilli from The Meters and Ivan Neville and Henry Butler. What a band! Sunday saw us doing some workshops. The workshops are probably our favourite part of these festivals and you never know what kind of magic is going to take place. We played the Gospel workshop Sunday morning with our friend the great singer John Boutte from New Oreleans. He and his guitarist Todd Duke and also the band The Crooked Jades made it a great show. Later in the day we shared the stage with our good friend and great songwriter Chris Smither, Mary Flower who is an amazing blues guitarist and Henry Butler, legendary piano player and singer. That was a great one too. We danced the night away to the sounds of Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings who mae it funky and were a great end to the festival. Highlights of the weekend would have to be the great Bettye Lavette. She blew our minds and made us cry. She is such a phenominal singer. Sharon Jones too was fantastc. The key lesson of the festival was "Choreography' .... 5, 6, 7, 8.. (ps other great bands we reccommend you check out are Eleni Mandell, Oh Suzanna, The Crooked Still).
Postscript to the RYMAN RAMBLE and Upcoming Shows.
Fri, Jul. 20 2007
Last Wednesday, July 18th we opened for The Levon Helm Band at the historic and legendary Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. We were so excited to be playing the Ryman and our show was very well received. We felt real warmth and respect from the audience. Levon was on fire and was having the time of his life! His set was amazing as were the songs of special guests Buddy Miller, Emmylou Harris and Sam Bush. Buddy broke our hearts with his beautiful version of "Wide River to Cross" and Amy and Fiona got to sing backgrounds for Emmylou on the beautiful ols country song "Rough and Rocky" which was a real dream come true. The end of the night was crazy with star-power as surprise guests Ricky Scaggs, Sheryl Crow and John Hiatt joined us all on stage for a rousing version of Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released". It was a truly special night. Levon was honoured in the manner which he truly deserves and he seemed to glow with happiness. Back in Woodstock, last Saturday's Ramble featured suprise guest Nick Lowe. Nick is most famous for his hit "Cruel to be Kind" and "What's so Funny about Peace Love and Understanding?" He wooed us with some soul songs and made it another great Ramble. Our next move is to CANADA for the CALGARY FOLK FEST where we have 3 shows on the bill with some great acts. Well worth checking out if you're on your great white way. After a week off we'll be heading out to the mid-west for some shows. We hit CLEVELAND, ANN ARBOR, CINCINATTI, CHICAGO and the WAUKESHA BLUES FEST in WISCONSIN... the acts on this festival include THE HOLMES BROS, BOOKER T and the MGs and MAVIS STAPLES. After that we go back to Canada for the EDMONTON FOLK FEST. Whew!
HELLO CANADA!!
Sat, Jul. 7 2007
Here we are writing from Winnipeg Canada where we've spent the last few days playing for fabulous Canadian audiences. We had a great show on the main stage Thursday and since then we've been singing and playing workshops with some wonderful musicians and songwriters such as The Flatlanders, Chris Smither, Tim Easton, Todd Snider, Uncle Earl and Crooked Still to name a few. We checked out The Indigo Girls on Thursday night who always mesmerize us with their beautiful voices and the depth of their songwriting. Last night we were there for our favourite "boy band", The Flatlanders. Tony played drums for their whole set and the rest of us got up and joined them for their encore. We finished out the night partying with the gorgeous girls from Uncle Earl and dancing to Michael Franti and his band. Tomorrow we're up early to go sing in the gospel tent and then later that night, after the great Randy Newman, we'll join everyone for the finale to close out the festival. Oh Canda!
